“The Box” Poster

I remember hearing Roddy Ricch for the first time in 2017 when he dropped his first mixtape, Feed Tha Streets. Roddy blew up the following year when he dropped Die Young, the song sold over 2 million copies and became his first 2x multi-platinum song.

By 2018, most people have heard Roddy’s music, but I took some pride in hearing his music before everybody else was with it. “The Box” dropped in December of 2019, and only 4 weeks went by before his new song was #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. “The Box” was his first #1 and it held that position for 11 weeks straight, and even eventually earned 10x multi-platinum.

I always appreciate it when artists release creative music videos to add visual components to their music, so I was hype to see that the music video for “The Box” was both high-speed and energetic. The imagery in the basketball scene specifically was so iconic to me that I asked my dad to create a poster inspired by the scene. When the piece was finished, I loved it so much that it was the only piece of art that I wanted in my dorm room at school. My favorite aspect of this piece is that it was made for me; I got to see one of my favorite clips translated into a dope poster for my dorm.

Peace,
